For camping, the park has water only sites, water and electric
hookups, and restrooms with showers. Miles and miles of hike and bike and equestrian trails also wind throughout the park.
Cowboy poetry and stargazing are some of the programs offered
at the new Lone Star Amphitheater. Head for Penitentiary Hollow, where stone steps laid more than 50 years ago wind through
a lakeside labyrinth of giant boulders, rock walls and narrow canyons. An overlook on a nearby bluff provides stunning views
of the 646-acre lake.
Most surprising to first-time visitors are rock-climbing opportunities
on bluffs on the east side of the lake. As would be expected in the rolling North Texas terrain, the cliffs are generally
no more than 35 to 40 feet high. However, the sheer rock faces and overhangs offer plenty of challenges to climbers.
To experience some of the finest spring wildflowers, take part
in our guided programs with one of our park knowledgeable interpreters. For those who enjoy wildlife viewing, the park is
home to many different animals including white-tailed deer, wild turkeys and many bird species.
